2. Account Registration

Certain Service features require a Coorabook account.

Users agree to:

• Provide accurate account information
• Maintain the security of login credentials
• Not share an account in an unauthorized manner
• Notify us if unauthorized account access is suspected
• Use the account in compliance with these Terms

Users are responsible for activity occurring through their accounts, except to the extent caused by circumstances outside their reasonable control.

3. Description of the Service

Coorabook provides book-related informational and educational tools, which may include:

• Discovering books
• Searching book databases
• Scanning book covers
• Identifying books using OCR
• Displaying book metadata
• Managing personal reading libraries
• Tracking reading interests and preferences
• Providing automated book information
• Providing related-book recommendations
• Providing estimated reading levels and age or grade ranges

Features may be added, modified, suspended, or discontinued.

The Service is provided for informational and educational purposes.

4. Book Scanning and OCR

The Service allows users to scan book covers using a device camera.

When a book cover is scanned:

  1. The image is temporarily uploaded to Google Firebase Cloud Storage.

  2. Google Cloud Vision accesses the temporary Firebase URL.

  3. OCR technology extracts book-related text.

  4. The image is automatically deleted immediately after OCR processing is completed.

OCR may extract information such as:

• Book title
• Author name
• ISBN
• Author names
• Other visible book-related text

The scanned image is not sent to OpenAI.

The scanned image is not permanently stored by Coora Labs Inc. and is not used for advertising or unrelated profiling.

OCR technology may produce incomplete or incorrect results. Users should verify important book information independently.

Users must not use the scanning feature to intentionally upload unlawful material or personal information unrelated to book identification.

5. AI-Generated and Automated Information

Certain Service features may use automated systems and third-party artificial intelligence services, including the OpenAI API.

Limited book-related information may be transmitted for automated processing, including:

• OCR-extracted text
• Book title
• Author name
• ISBN
• Book description
• Book or publication metadata

This information may be used to:

• Organize or correct book information
• Produce estimated recommended age ranges
• Produce estimated grade levels
• Produce estimated Lexile® levels
• Identify series information
• Generate related-book recommendations
• Present book information more clearly

Coorabook does not intentionally send OpenAI:

• User email addresses
• Profile photos
• User account IDs
• Passwords or authentication credentials
• A user’s complete personal library
• Scanned book-cover images
• Personal information that is not necessary for the requested feature

AI-generated and automatically processed information:

• May contain errors
• May be incomplete
• May not reflect the latest available information
• May differ from information issued by publishers, schools, libraries, or official assessment providers
• Should be considered informational only

Users should independently verify information before relying on it for an important decision.

We do not guarantee that automated information will be appropriate for a specific user or purpose.

The Service may provide estimated recommended age ranges, grade levels, or Lexile® levels.

These values are automated estimates and are not official Lexile® measures.

Lexile® is a registered trademark of MetaMetrics, Inc. Coorabook and Coora Labs Inc. are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by MetaMetrics, Inc.
